CONSTRUCTION OF SEGMENT A HAS BEGUN!

The reconstruction of Peters Creek Parkway road and interchange began on October 23 and will continue through Fall 2018. This phase of construction is referred to as Segment A. During the initial months, there will be temporary lane closures on both Peters Creek Parkway and Business 40 during this time frame, as noted below. Remember that the full closure of Business 40 will only occur AFTER completion of Segment A in Fall 2018.

Here’s what YOU can expect beginning in October:

ON PETERS CREEK PARKWAY:

Work crews began site preparations on October 23. While two lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained on Peters Creek Parkway during most of construction (click here to see a graphic of how traffic will flow), there will be some initial temporary, nighttime (9PM - 6AM) and non-peak, daytime (9AM – 4PM) lane closures on Peters Creek Parkway. Detour signs will be placed on local streets, similar to what you already see if a road is closed.

ON BUSINESS 40 UNDER PETERS CREEK PARKWAY BRIDGE*:

NEW INFORMATION!

From November 27, 2017 thru January 11, 2018, the inner eastbound and westbound lanes of Business 40 underneath Peters Creek Parkway will be closed all day, as shown here. PLEASE ALLOW MORE TIME IN YOUR COMMUTE IF YOU USE BUSINESS 40 IN THE DOWNTOWN AREA.

From now until November 27, NCDOT the inner lanes will only be closed overnight from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., Monday through Sunday. But that will change on November 27, as noted above.

In addition, and only if needed during the hours from midnight to 6:00 a.m., eastbound traffic will be diverted up the exit ramp at Peters Creek Parkway, over Peters Creek Parkway, and down the Business 40 on-ramp from Peters Creek Parkway (click here to see an image). This movement is called an "up and over".

While the distance of the lane closures will be short, there may be traffic delays as two lanes merge into one in each direction. Please consider taking another route if possible, to avoid delays.

Message boards will be placed on Business 40 to advise drivers of lane closures. Ample notice of lane closures and detours via news and social media will also be provided so that travelers can prepare.

*PLEASE NOTE:All lane closures are what is expected, but will not be used if the work does not warrant it. For real time closure information, motorist should check NCDOT’s Traveler Information Management (TIMS) maps at https://tims.ncdot.gov/tims.
