Lane Closures Ahead for Work On New Peters Creek Parkway Bridge in Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM — Contract crews will begin closing lanes on Peters Creek Parkway and the inside lanes along a portion of Business 40, later this month for bridge support work on the new Peters Creek Parkway bridge in Winston-Salem.

From Monday, Oct. 23, through early December, the inside lane of Business 40 near the Peters Creek Parkway bridge will be closed in each direction from 9 p.m. until 6 a.m. In addition, beginning Wednesday, Oct. 25, eastbound Business 40 traffic will be detoured up the exit ramp, across Peters Creek Parkway, and back down the entrance ramp, from midnight until 6 a.m. Due to this detour, Peters Creek Parkway will be reduced to one lane as motorists approach the Business 40 interchange.

Beginning in early December, the inside lane of Business 40 in both directions will close, both day and night, as crews work to complete the new bridge foundation. This continuous closure is scheduled to remain in place for 45 days.

There will also be periodic daytime lane closures along Peters Creek Parkway beginning mid-October while crews perform clearing operations near the Business 40 interchange. The closures will be installed between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., when needed.

For this project, there will be no lane closures on Business 40 or Peters Creek Parkway from Nov. 21 through Nov. 26, due to holiday travel restrictions, said Division 9 Senior Assistant Resident Engineer Larry Shaver.

Transportation officials remind motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.
